St. John
St. John was born in Egg Harbor Township, New Jersey, a forested ocean community. He spent most of his time outdoors sketching scenes of nature. He enjoyed painting ocean scenes when he first began. Later, he attended Stockton College in New Jersey, where he came up with his own style of painting. Influenced by world renowned artists, such as Picasso, Rauschenberg, Demuth, and Basquiat, artist St. John lives in the aesthetic, where the rhythms of nature are his food. Whether creating abstracts, collages, still lives or figures, this versatile artist compares the variety of his artwork to the ever-changing faces of nature. Challenging his skills to the limit of possibilities is where he is most comfortable. St. John worked under a few artists after he graduated from college, but he preferred to work alone. He always felt that he was too confined while apprenticing. He later built his own studio in his house, where he lives now, in Phoenix, Arizona. It is here where he has felt the greatest inspiration and the freedom, he has always wanted, to paint the way he wants to paint. St. John has a vast array of artwork that he feels describe different times in his life and what his life is to be. "My paintings are an attempt to confirm where painting as an art has been, but also create possibilities for the future. I think of my art as an infusion of early abstract 'expressionism' and modern 'pluralism' ideals."
